IDIOT DJ VOL. 5: 'HARPSICHORD HEAVEN'

I haven't posted a new Idiot DJ mix in some time not out of laziness, but more that I wanted to give A Sheik In Scores about six months of breathing room. I don't want to exhaust your downloading capacity, dear readers, on music not of my own imagination... So in other words if you haven't downloaded my last album (free of charge) skip this post, and CLICK HERE.

For you others, I present the finest and first themed installment of the Idiot DJ series. Volume 5, a brief history of psychedelic, (broadly defined), harpsichord usage. By no means is this at all definitive. I've left out much, and was restricted (mostly) to LP's I actually own. Once again, the grimey nature of this mix is due to my crackly records being bounced to tape before mixed.

The harpsichord is my favourite instrument, and fans of my own music can expect it sprinkled over my new material that will leak it's way out sometime in 2011. It seemed appropriate to make a mix of this theme, and in anticipation of my own psychedelic, (broadly defined), usage.

Artists featured include, roughly in this order:

Barry White, The Association, Wizzard, Chris Clark, Faust, The Sylvers, Madlib, The Rolling Stones, Roxy Music, Lee Hazlewood, The Left Banke, Love, Paul Mauriat, more Barry White, Ghostface, Jimi Hendrix, Captain Beefheart, The Beatles, The Millenium, Serge Gainsbourg, The Stranglers, The Bee Gee's, The Four Tops, The End, Nirvana UK, Jean Le Fennec, The Zombies, Kanye West, Nick Drake, Jean-Claude Vannier, more Serge Gainsbourg, The Kinks

And yes, I realize Kanye West does not exactly fit neatly into any kind of psychedelic category, in fact his whole ethos seems not to induce any mind expansion, but oppositely asks you to help him expand himself into a signifier of all music and culture generally speaking. HE IS A BLACK HOLE, but don't let that distract you from the best mix of the series so far!
